New Orleans Fizz cocktail history
The Fizz cocktail was created by famous mixologist, Henry C. Ramos, in New Orleans.

Harry Johnson’s New and Improved Bartender’s Manual, published in 1882, included the Gin Fizz, the Golden Fizz, the Silver Fizz, the Morning Glory Fizz, the Brandy Fizz, and the Whisky Fizz. None of the recipes from this era included orange flower or orange blossom water, an ingredient in the New Orleans Fizz.
In 1913, Jacques Straub’s Straub’s Manual of Mixed Drinks was published with a Fizz section, containing nearly 40 Fizz cocktail recipes. One of those was the New Orleans Fizz on page 70, which included orange flower water:

An enjoyable cocktail, mostly influenced by the lemon, with the orange blossom water leaving a light, finishing taste. If forced to choose between the Fizz cocktails, we’d prefer a Gin Fizz or a Golden Fizz, but the New Orleans Fizz is tasty as well.
