The Hot Toddy is believed to have originated centuries ago in India where the toddy was made by fermenting palm tree sap. The Hot Toddy has been used for hundreds of years to soothe various ills, many times those associated with the cold or flu.

Pour in Mug: 1 jigger Rum, Brandy, or Whiskey, 1 teaspoon Sugar, 2 Cloves, Lemon slice. Add boiling water and Cinnamon Stick.

We tried the hot toddy two ways – one with brandy and one with rum. Ingredients used:

Brandy Hot Toddy

  • E & J Brandy Grand Blue
  • Sugar
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Lemon slice

Rum Hot Toddy

  • Appleton Estate Jamaican Rum
  • Sugar
  • Cloves
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Lemon slice

We preferred the Brandy Hot Toddy to the Rum Hot Toddy. The Brandy’s fragrance was a bit more pleasing and comforting.
