Stinger cocktail history

A simple cocktail, the Stinger consists of only two ingredients, Brandy and Creme de Menthe. While its creator is unknown, a similar cocktail, The Judge, was included by William Schmidt in 1891 in The Flowing Bowl.

My Dad used to order a Stinger after dinner on occasion and I always liked the name as a kid. We enjoyed the Stinger Vanderbilt-style, before dinner. (Gloria Vanderbilt’s father, Reginald Claypoole Vanderbilt, served them prior to dining). A fabulous beverage.
