Named after King Alfonso XII, King of Spain from 1886 to 1931, the Alfonso Cocktail is a Champagne cocktail with herbal notes.

Interestingly, the first article found from 1929 states the cocktail contained Sherry, Curaçao, and an orange peel. The recipe in the latter article from 1952 matches the Swank Cocktail Guide version.

Place 1 lump sugar in Champagne glass, dash with bitters, add ice cube, 1/2 jigger Dubonnet, fill with Champagne. Add Lemon twist.

Ingredients used:

  • Dom Pérignon Champagne
  • Angostura Bitters
  • Dubonnet
  • Lemon twist
  • Sugar

The Alfonso Cocktail is a refreshing Champagne cocktail that adds a bit of complexity to Champagne, Prosecco, or sparkling wine. Delicious!
