Alexander’s Sister cocktail

Alexander’s Sister is cocktail number five on the Swank Cocktail Guide.

For those preferring mint over chocolate, Alexander’s Sister is a variation on a Gin Alexander, substituting Creme de Cacao with Creme de Menthe.

It is unknown when this variation was created, however it was included in a list of cocktails published in April 1935.

“Choice of World’s Selected Liquor Recipes, Gin-Based Cocktails, Alexander’s Sister Cocktail,” newspaper article, The Tampa Times (Tampa, Florida), 11 Apr 1935, p. B2, col. 1.

Using a mild gin liked Hendrick’s, the Alexander’s Sister cocktail tastes like Girl Scout Thin Mints® Cookies. We used clear Creme de Menthe because it was on hand; using green would make this a beautiful Christmas cocktail. We like both mint and chocolate so it was a toss-up as far as preference between the Gin Alexander and Alexander’s Sister for us.
