American Beauty is cocktail number seven on the Swank Cocktail Guide.
Quite a few different cocktail recipes are named the American Beauty Cocktail, but this one dates back to at least 1913 when it appeared in Straub’s Manual of Mixed Drinks as a punch.

American Beauty cocktail recipe

1/3 Brandy, 1/3 Dry Vermouth, 1/3 Orange juice, dash white Creme de Menthe, 1 dash Grenadine. Shake with ice, top carefully with a little Port.
Ingredients used:
- E & J Brandy
- Dolin Dry Vermouth
- Dow’s 2000 Vintage Port
- Hiram Walker Creme de Menthe
- Rose’s Grenadine
- Fresh squeezed orange juice

We used a 20 year old vintage port because it was open, and probably a tad more than a little, but most likely any decent vintage port would be fine in this delectable beverage.
