Harry Johnson’s New and Improved Bartender’s Manual, published 1882, contains a John Collins recipe and a Tom Collins recipe. The difference between the recipes is Holland Gin, also called Jenever, in the John Collins and Old Tom Gin in the Tom Collins.

1 1/2 jigger Rum, Gin, Vodka or Whiskey, juice of 1 Lemon, 1 teaspoon Powdered Sugar. Shake well with ice and pour into glass. Fill with soda.

Ingredients used:

  • Tito’s Vodka
  • Fresh-squeezed lemon juice
  • Powdered sugar
  • SodaStream carbonated water
