Mae Pabis was born on 14 March 1913 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois to John Pabis and Magdalena Raczkowski.1 John and Magdalena immigrated to the United States in 1904 from Poland and settled in Chicago where they lived with their children, Stella, Mae, Walter, and William.2

In 1936, Mae’s mother, Magdalena died at the age of 49 in Chicago and is buried in St. Adalberts Cemetery in Niles, Cook County, Illinois.3 Mae’s father, John, died in 1940 in Chicago at the age of 54 and is also buried in St. Adalberts.4

Mae married Ralph Russell Phillis in the mid-1940s.5 Sadly, Ralph died only a few years later in 1948.6 Ralph is buried in Beverly Cemetery in Blue Island, Cook County, Illinois.7

Mae remarried on 11 May 1949 to Elmer W. Charlson in Cook County, Illinois.8 Mae died only a few years later on 1 May 1952 at the age of 39.9 Mae Pabis Phillis Charlson is buried with her family in St. Adalberts Cemetery in Niles, Cook County, Illinois.10

5. No marriage record has been located. Ralph’s 1948 death record lists his wife as Mae. In 1942, when Ralph registered for the draft, he listed his employer, Mrs. Stark, as his contact, not Mae, so it is probable he had not married at that time, placing the marriage most likely between 1942 and 1948. In 1946, Ralph’ address in the white pages was 1014 W. 19, the same as Mae’s in her 1952 death notice.
