Tell us a bit about your genealogy/family history journey

I was adopted in 1969, and having written a couple of letters in my early 20’s both to adoption agencies and to an address I had been given in England for my birth father. I did not have any follow up at this point in my life. Having reached my late 30’s and using the internet I discovered both parents individually by chance really.

My mother I found on a missing persons site where she had posted details in respect to my original name which I was lucky to have in my possession. However someone had tried to pretend they were her son as well so the email I sent on to her was put into junk mail however luckily her husband found that mail and retrieved it, she had retired to France and was able to meet her and now have her in my life.

In respect to my birth father like myself he was interested in local history and old postcards, he had written on an old postcard site asking if anyone knew him from when he used to live in the Bournemouth area and by chance I read this when looking for old postcards on this site I contacted him and he came over to see me immediately, alas he has now past away but I have been fortunate to have found more details about my family.

With regard to my old photos I collect I often research locations and people and have reunited people with old photos of their family.

If you could meet one person from your family tree that died before you were born, who would it be and why?

My adopted mothers father he fought in WW1 alongside his brother who became a prisoner of war and he was also a lifeboat crewman, tragically he lost his life in a shipping disaster which is quite ironic given his previous life experience this was when he was retired and happened of the coast of Madeira in 1963
