My immigrant grandparents died in the 1930s. Except when the 1940 census was released, it turned out they didn’t. And that got me started on the journey to solve the mystery of what happened.

My paternal grandmother, who actually did not die before I was born, but was unknown to us and lost in the NYS asylum system for 65 years

Looking at the story of my wife’s southern US ancestors. As you might imagine, it’s complicated. Also doing speaking about my book, Immigrant Secrets.
