Minnette Leota “Minnie” Bullock was born 22 July 1891, most likely in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, the youngest child born to John W. Bullock and Anna M. Ward.¹

Minnie spent her childhood at 689 S. Front Street in Columbus with her parents and siblings, William, Curtis, Marshall, Myrtle, Guy, and Jasper.²

Minnie’s mother, Anna May Ward Bullock, died at the age of 54 in 1911 in Columbus and is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery.³

Minnie moved to Chicago where she met and married Charles Suitt “Charlie” Phillis on her birthday, 22 July 1918.⁴ Charlie worked as a hotel clerk and Minnie and Charlie made their home at 2446 Clark Street near Lincoln Park in Chicago.⁵

By 1930, Charlie and Minnie had moved to 2311 Gidding Street and both were working as clerks.⁶

Minnie’s father, John Wesley Bullock, died at the age of 74 in Columbus, Ohio in 1932. He is buried in Green Lawn Cemetery in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio, the same cemetery as Minnie’s mother.⁷

In 1942, Charlie and Minnie were living at 1302 Waveland near Wrigley Field, where they would live for the remainder of their lives.⁸

Minnette Bullock Phillis died on 14 April 1946 at the age of 54.⁹ Minnie is buried in Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago.¹⁰

Charles Suitt Phillis died on 21 October 1968 at the age of 82 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois.¹¹ Charles is also buried in Rosehill Cemetery and Mausoleum in Chicago.¹²

1. No birth record was found for Minnette in Franklin County or Perry County in 1891 or 1894; nothing was also found in Perry County delayed births. It is believed Minnie’s birth date was 22 July 1891 as it is the date on her death record and the month and year on the 1900 census. It is also believed Corning, Ohio listed as her birthplace on her death certificate is an error and it should be Columbus. No evidence the family ever lived in Corning was found.

Her full name of Minette Leota Phillis was listed on her social security record. Her marriage certificate reads Minnie M. The 1900 census reads Minnie W.
