John A. Faulkner was born in October 1879, most likely in Curtail, Hopkins County, Kentucky, to Hutchins Burton Faulkner and Margaret Frances “Fanny” Mills Faulkner.1

In 1880, John, age 8 months, was living with his parents and older sister, Mary, in the Curtail district of Hopkins County.2 Lou Ella Oates, a student, was also living with the family.3

It is believed that John died in infancy or childhood before April 1888.4 It is unknown where he is buried..5


1. No birth record has been located for John. On the 1880 census, he was listed as 8 months of age in June 1880; his birth date is estimated as about October 1879.

3. Lue Ella Oates was a student living with the Faulkner family, the daughter of George and Nancy Dobbins Oates. She married in 1882.

4. John was not listed with his siblings when his mother, Margaret Francis Faulkner, filed a Guardianship Bond in 1888. It is assumed he died prior to that time as he would have been a minor.
