Laura Moulton Benjamin was born 7 February 1871 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts to Samuel S. Benjamin and Sarah J. Holmes.1

Laura lived with her parents and siblings at 100 Chestnut Street in New Bedford, attended Parker Street Grammar School, then New Bedford High School, graduating in 1890.2

On 22 July 1891, Laura wed Hiram Marshall of Fall River in New Bedford and the couple had six known children over the next eight years.3

The years surrounding the turn of the century must have been quite difficult for Laura. Laura’s father, Samuel Stowell Benjamin, died in 1895 in New Bedford and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.4

The following year, Hiram died of typhoid fever at the age of 29, leaving behind Laura and the six children, Ralph, Earle, William, Hazel, Robert, and Marjorie, who was born after her father’s death.

Laura’s mother, Sarah J. Holmes Benjamin, died in 1905 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery.6

Laura never remarried and lived in Bristol County for much of the rest of her life.7

Laura Moulton Benjamin Marshall died at the age of 57 on 11 April 1928 in Arlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.8

Laura and Hiram Marshall’s children

Laura and Hiram’s fifth child, Robert Carlton Marshall, died at the age of 35 on 11 September 1933 in Bronx, New York. Robert is buried in Saint Marys Cemetery in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts.9

Ralph Howard Marshall, the first child born to Laura and Hiram, died on 26 April 1965 in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania. Ralph is buried in Old Cathedral Cemetery in Philadelphia, Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania.10

The fourth child of Laura and Hiram, Hazel May Marshall, was adopted as a child in 1906 by James and Edith Wright. Hazel May Marshall Wright died on 12 May 1965 in Augusta, Kennebec County, Maine, and is buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Augusta.11

Laura and Hiram’s second child, Earle Cleveland Marshall, died on 16 February 1967 in St. Petersburg, Pinellas County, Florida. Earle is buried in Melrose Cemetery, Brockton, Plymouth County, Massachusetts.12

William Marsden Marshall, Laura and Hiram’s third child, died 30 August 1988 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts, and is buried in South Dartmouth Cemetery in Dartmouth, Bristol County, Massachusetts.13

The sixth child of Hiram and Laura, Marjorie Benjamin Marshall Shepley, died 2 May 1973 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts.14
