Isadore Brown Lee was born on 6 June 1871 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts to John A. Lee and Susan E. Brown.1

During her childhood, Isadore lived at 60 State Street in New Bedford with her parents and siblings, Charles, Minnie, and John.2 Isadore had two additional sisters who died before her birth, a baby born in 1864, and Lillian Lizzie “Lottie,” who died at the age of two in 1869.3

In 1883, Isadore accompanied a large group that included her aunt Isadore Brown Potter and her husband, C. C. Potter, to Akin House in Horseneck for the season.4

In 1885, when Isadore was just 14, her mother died at the age of 52 in New Bedford.5 Susan Elizabeth Brown Lee is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts.6

Three years later in 1888, Isadore’s sister, Melintha B. “Minnie” Lee Kelley, died at the age of 28 in New Bedford.7 She also is buried in the family plot in Fall River.8

Isadore attended Parker Street Grammar School, then New Bedford High School, graduating in 1890.9

Following high school, Isadore worked as a bookkeeper in New Bedford and, in 1900, was living with her father, John, and step-mother, Harriet.10 In 1901, her father, John Anson Lee, died at the age of 72.11 He is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.12

Isadore returned to the Akin House with friends in 1904.13

In July 1907, Isadore traveled from New York to Liverpool, and then on to France, where she resided for two years.14 Upon her return, Isadore lived in Boston, working as a secretary.15 Isadore returned again to France in 1918, where she worked for the American Red Cross.16

After returning from France, Isadore lived in Boston and then moved to New York City, where she worked as a secretary.17

Isadore’s brother, John Albert Lee, died in 1930 and is buried in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.18

From about the mid-1930s, Isadore lived on Riverside Avenue in Swansea, Bristol County, Massachusetts. 19 In 1935, Isadore attended her 45th high school reunion in New Bedford; she is on the 2nd row, 4th from the left in the photograph.20

Isadore’s last surviving sibling, Charles Dean Lee, died in 1936 and is buried in the family plot in Fall River.21

Isadore Brown Lee died at the age of 73 in New Bedford in 1945.22 Isadore is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Fall River.23
