Hattie Seabury Davis was born 14 July 1871 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts to Charles S. Davis and Hattie E. Seabury.1 Sadly, Hattie’s mother died during Hattie’s birth.2

Hattie’s father, Charles, married second to Sarah E. Ladd in New Bedford in 1874.3 Charles and Sarah remained living in New Bedford, while Hattie went to Little Compton, Newport County, Rhode Island to live with her mother’s family during her childhood.4 Hattie returned to New Bedford, attending high school there and graduating with the class of 1890.5


Hattie’s father died at the age of 53 in 1893 in New Bedford and is buried in Rural Cemetery.6 Hattie returned to Little Compton, Rhode Island after high school, and was living with her grandmother and aunts at the turn of the century.7
On 17 July 1902 in New Bedford, Hattie married Francis O. Tripp in Little Compton, Rhode Island.8

The couple made their home in Little Compton, where in 1904, their only known child, a boy, was born premature and did not survive.9 He is buried in the Shaw Cemetery in Little Compton where his grandmother, Hattie E. Seabury Davis is also buried.10
Frank and Hattie lived in Little Compton for decades.11 They entertained friends, traveled, participated in local activities, and, in 1910, Hattie survived an auto accident with her aunt and uncle, Issac W. Howland and Mary Catherine Seabury Howland.12






In 1935, Frank and Hattie attended Hattie’s 45th reunion of the New Bedford High School Class of 1890; Hattie is pictured on the second row, second from the left, and Frank is on the fourth row on the very left.13



Hattie Seabury Davis Tripp died at the age of 84 on 25 Aug 1955 in Tiverton, Newport County, Rhode Island.14 She is buried in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.15

A few months after Hattie’s death, The Providence Journal ran an article featuring Francis.16

Francis O. Tripp died the following year at the age of 87 in Little Compton.17 He is buried with Hattie in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.18
