Carrie Francis Washburn was born on 10 August 1870 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts to William H. Washburn and Clara A. Havens.1

Carrie had three known siblings, all born in New Bedford: Herbert, born 25 May 1872, Irene “Janie,” born 28 January 1876, and Hattie, born 13 November 1880.2 During her childhood, Carrie lived with her parents and siblings at 45 North Street in New Bedford and attended Parker Street Grammar School.3
Carrie graduated from New Bedford High School in 1890.4


Carrie’s father, William H. Washburn, operated a lumber mill and manufactured builder’s furnishings in New Bedford. Carrie’s brother, Herbert, worked at a grocer, and, by the mid-1890s, Carrie was working as a milliner at 189 Purchase Street in New Bedford.5

Carrie’s mother, Clara A. Havens Washburn, died at the age of 41 in 1891.6

Two years later in 1893, Carrie’s brother, Herbert A. Washburn, died at the age of 20.7 Both are buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in New Bedford.8

On 6 June 1900, Carrie married Fred S. Webster in New Bedford and the couple soon moved to 111 Bower Street in Boston where Fred worked as a hotel steward.9
Carrie’s father, William, died in 1906 in New Bedford and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery in New Bedford.10

For over two decades, Carrie and Fred lived in the Boston area and Fred worked as a hotel steward.11 By the mid-1920s, Carrie and Fred had moved to Arlington, Middlesex County, Massachusetts.12 On 4 July 1927, Frederick Smith “Fred” Webster died at the age of 55 in Arlington.13 Fred is buried in the Washburn family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in New Bedford.14

In the mid-1930s, Carrie lived in Dorchester in Boston.15 Carrie attended her 45th high school reunion of the New Bedford class of 1890. Carrie is on the 2nd row, 2nd from the right in the photo.16


Carrie had moved to 4 Ellsworth Ave in Cambridge by 1941.17 Carrie Francis Washburn Webster died in Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts in 1941.18
Carrie’s two sisters died after Carrie’s death. Irene Ethel “Jennie” Washburn Chase died in 1945 in New Bedford and is buried in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery in New Bedford.19
Hattie Maud Washburn Draper died on 15 August 1962 in Milford, Hillsboro County, New Hampshire.20 Hattie is buried in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Wilton, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.21
