James Hooper was one of the first settlers of Illinois.1

“The First Settlement was made about 1814,by James Bankson, Jonathan Hill and James Hooper. They located on the east side of Shoal creek. Bankson built his cabin near the Kaskaskia river. Hill settled on or near section 16, and Hooper on section 23.”

James Hooper & Rufus Inman vs. Elijah Jones: Action on the case
“The parties appeared and by consent of the Plaintiffs, this cause is dismissed at the cost of the Plaintiffs. It is therefore considered that the Defendant recover his cost on and about his defence in this behalf expended, and the Plaintiffs be amended for their false clamor, etc.”
