Helen Curtis Hervey was born 7 May 1872 in New Bedford, Bristol County, Massachusetts to James W. Hervey and Elizabeth R. Nickerson.1 Helen had one known sibling, Walter, who died at the age of 10 when Helen was a toddler.2 In her childhood, Helen lived with her parents at 210 County Street in New Bedford and Helen attended Parker Street Grammar School.3

Helen attended New Bedford High School and was a member of the Plantagenets society in 1887. She is pictured third from left in the photo.4

Helen graduated from New Bedford High School in 1890.5


After high school, Helen taught school and lived in New Bedford with her parents.6
Helen hosted friends at her home and, on at least two occasions, Helen was a bridesmaid in her cousins’ weddings; in 1893 at the marriage of Helen Manton Warren and Edward Nichols Slade and in 1895 at the marriage of Lucia Hervey Slade and George W. Bliss.7


Helen also paid a visit to Lucia Hervey Slade Bliss in 1910.8


On 8 October 1910, Helen married George I. Macy in New Bedford.9

Helen’s mother, Elizabeth R. Nickerson Hervey, died in 1919, and George and Helen lived with her father, James, following her mother’s death.10

Helen Curtis Hervey Macy died at the age of 51 on 14 July 1923 in New Bedford and is buried in Rural Cemetery in New Bedford.11

Helen’s father, James Walter Hervey, died on 2 December 1926.12
George I. Macy died on 17 August 1937, also in New Bedford.13
