In 1890-1891, Henry Holl of Canton, Ohio compiled and authored the History of the Holl-Schrantz Family, or the Descendants of Ephraim Holl. The book begins with background on the Johannes Holl line who, according to Henry, immigrated from Switzerland about 1730 and settled in what is now New Holland, Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

The early part of the book is based on a family record written in German and states Johannes Holl married first to an unknown female who died shortly after giving birth to Abraham Holl on 11 Feb 1734. Johannes married second to Fronica Bachman, and the couple had four known sons: Johannes, Johan Peter, Wendell, and Isaac.

[16 Feb 1749, under the sign of Cancer, a little son was born to me, and his name is Isaac Holl.]
