Fair

Went skating after school as some of the boys cleaned off the pond in different places. Went after supper & had a good time.

Fair

Helped Mama this morning. This P.M. went to a party at G. Blake’s house. There were only girls there, Susie. A & M Perkins, K. Morrissey, A. Brennan, Grace & myself. Marion P. & I came away at 4.30 & I went to get a paper at the Depot & then we came up to Scudders & skated a little while. Ethel Chandler then came up with Bert & I & with Bennie we all played cards. Stanley didn’t come home to the great disappointment of all.

Bennie is 21 years old to-day. Papa said, “he is a full grown man now, but if he doesn’t behave I shall spank him.” I should like to see him try it. Papa has gone to Mr. Kenyons to-day who like all consumptives never die when you expect them too. I wish he would get better & be as well as ever, but “If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

It has snowed hard or else hailed all day; so I guess our skating is up the spout for the present anyway. I will not try to foretell the future.

It has blown like 60 all day. I didn’t go to school this afternoon because of it. We (Bert & I) made peanut taffy.

Went over to Isaac Leonard’s & bought a loaf of bread & sent it home by Tottie Lewis. Then went over to Ethelle’s to see if she could go skating, she couldn’t so I & Leonie went over to her house & got her sled and went coasting on Mulligan’s Hill. When I came home I stopped at Ethelle’s as she was all alone & she showed me how to play two new games of cards “Muggins” & a new “Everlasting.” 

Emma Crawshaw’s birthday is today. I think she is 27 years old.

I went up to Walkers for some meat & then came home. My foot is awful sore.

Didn’t go to school today as my foot was so sore. But went down to Fitzgibbons for my old shoes. This afternoon she went to Fanny Websters & on the way back she stopped at the school & the girls told her I had a valentine in my desk, so she sent Bessie Daley up for it. It was from Leonie Dore, then Bert went over coasting.

Went to school to-day & after school I went down to Sophie Pierces & sliding. Got a valentine.

Helped Mamma and then Bertie and I started down street. We had a wrangle on the back road so I came back & she took her went as I thought over to the hill.  At noon she came home she had been down street also on the hill. This afternoon I went down alone & passed in the books. She went over to Ethel Chandler’s & I went over there on my way back from the green & stayed the rest of the afternoon. We played cards that is Harry Robbins, Leonie, Ethelle & I & Bert & Lottie watched.

I went down to Fanny Websters again tonight because I wanted to ask her if she would just as well come up tomorrow as Bert wasn’t going to be at home. She has gone down to Mrs. Brasselles to help her sew. Fanny had some kind of a book which had an oraculum in it, this kind of a fortune teller. I tried it & it told me I was going to have a handsome wealthy partner & was going abroad & a few other things. Fan cent me a book called “A Womans War.”

I didn’t go to school to-day because of my throat. Bert & I worked on her sofa pillow & have nearly finished. I also finished reading “A Womans War” Bert has got a cold Mama went down street to-day.

I am staying at home a day again. Read to myself & aloud to Bertie. Miss Philo Reed came over this afternoon. It doesn’t look as if there was going to be any more skating this winter, March is nearly here & spring will come then I don’t believe I could ever get enough of good skating. The winter seems to have gone by awfully quick.


Stanley came home to-night as he was working in Mansfield.

I do believe I will write with ink next year lead pencil smuts so much. I have been reading in the Ladies’ World for March about keeping diaries & it said you ought to write down about the paying of bills. I am thankful all our rent & milk bills to the Reeds are paid for we receive no receipts for any of those bills when they are paid & they could say we didn’t though we have every time. I haven’t been to school today either. Ethelle came up tonight after school to see me & brought me some letters from Anna, Susie, Sally & Kate and
