James C. Hooper was born 27 Oct 1827 in Jackson County, Alabama.1 James married Lavina H. Spurgeon about 1850, most likely in Alabama.2 By 1854, James and Lavina had moved to Dade County, Missouri, where they purchased 40 acres and established a home.3
James and Lavina had four known children, M. Montraville, Adrula “Addie,” Britton, and Mary.4
- M. Montraville was born in December 1853 in Missouri. He married first to Emma D. Rife on 4 November 1877 in Benton County, Arkansas.5 He married second to Martha Eugene Hall on 5 Mar 1884 in Benton County, Arkansas.6 Montraville died between 1830-1840.7 Martha died 20 May 1945 in Tulsa County, Oklahoma and is buried in Tulsa, Oklahoma.8
- Adrula “Addie” Hooper was born 4 May 1856 in Missouri.9 Adrula married James Sears on 12 Oct 1873 in Faulkner County, Arkansas.10 Addie died 29 July 1940 and is buried in Boulder City, Newton County, Missouri.11
- Britton F. Hooper was born on 2 Nov 1859 in Missouri.12 Brit married Blanche Belle Woosley on 2 Mar 1910 in Hutchinson, Reno, Kansas.13 Britton died on 27 Feb 1954 in Pawnee County, Oklahoma and is buried in Terlton, Pawnee County, Oklahoma.14
- Mary Shelby “Mollie” Hooper was born 15 Jan 1866 in Tennessee.15 Mary married Rufus Byron Green on 4 October 1898 in McDonald County, Missouri.16 Mary died on 6 July 1916 in Neosho, Newton County and is buried in Boulder City, Newton County, Missouri.17
James and Lavina sold their property in Dade County, Missouri on 31 May 1861 and the family moved to Tennessee, then on to California, Faulkner County, Arkansas.18
James C. Hooper died on 27 Jan 1898 and is buried in Pineville Cemetery, Pineville, McDonald County, Missouri.19
Following James’ death, Lavina lived with Montraville and then with Mollie. 20 Lavina H. Spurgeon Hooper died on 2 July 1913 in Neosho, Newton County and is buried in Hazelgreen Cemetery, Boulder City, Newton County, Missouri.21
