Alexander Hooper was born about December 1840 in Indiana or Ohio.1 Alexander served with Company G, Unit 79 Illinois Infantry in the Union Army during the Civil War, where he was injured, loosing sight in his right eye and partially in his left. 2

Following the war, Alexander married Julia Ann Webster, the daughter of Levi and Nancy Webster, in Montgomery County, Illinois on 1 Jan 1868.3

Alexander and Julia soon moved to Bond County, Illinois where they began their family. Ann was born in 1868, who died as a child, and Levi was born in 1873.4 In 1880, Alexander and Julia sold their 22 acres in Bond County they’d purchased in 1875 and moved to Macoupin County, where Olive May was born on 29 Jan 1881 and Alfred Leroy was born in 1889.5 Alexander and Julia had two other children who died as infants.6

Alexander and Julia lived in Macoupin County for the remainder of their lives.7 Alexander died on 6 Feb 1913 and Julia died on 20 Jan 1923.8 Both are buried, along with their children, Levi and Olive May, are buried in Gillespie City Cemetery in Gillespie, Macoupin County, Illinois. Their son, Alfred, is buried in Houston, Texas9
