A Sunday school reminder postcard sent from Mrs. Prather to Mr. and Mrs. E. T. McCarty of Cadiz, Trigg County, Kentucky was purchased in February 2023. It is believed that Mrs. Prather was Emma Frances Garton Prather and Mr. and Mrs. E T. McCarty were Edward Thomas McCarty and Flora Lewys Mitchell. The church they attended was most likely the Cadiz Methodist Church.

Edward Thomas McCarty and Flora Lewys Mitchell

In 1910, Edward Thomas and Flora McCarty were the only Mr. and Mrs. E. T. McCarty living in Trigg County, Kentucky.1 Edward’s father, Edward Thomas McCarty Sr., died in 1869.2

Edward Thomas McCarty was born 1 March 1868 in Kentucky to Edward Thomas McCarty Sr and Martha A. Terry.3 On 9 April 1908 in Cadiz, Edward married Flora Lewys Mitchell.4 Flora was born 20 August 1886 in Vine Grove, Kentucky, the daughter of Francis A. Mitchell and Rosina Williams.5

Edward Thomas McCarty died 15 October 1941 in Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee.6 Flora Mitchell McCarty died on 5 December 1972 in Cadiz at the age of 86. She was a longtime member of the Cadiz Methodist Church. 7

Emma Frances Garton Prather

In 1910, Emma and Humphrey Prather were the only Prather’s found living in Trigg County, Kentucky.8

Emma Frances Garton was born 29 May 1857 in Christian County, Kentucky to J. J. Garton and Emily Francis White, both born in Christian County, Kentucky.9 Emma married Humphrey Marshall Prather on 15 April 1885 in Cadiz, Trigg County, Kentucky.10

In 1910, Emma and H. M. were living in Trigg County, Kentucky.11 On 6 December 1915, Emma died of a sudden heart attack in Cadiz.12 Per her obituary, she was a member of the Methodist Church.13 Humphrey Marshall Prather died 2 February 1939 in Cadiz.14
