Williams J. Browns in Franklin County
There were two William J. Browns in Franklin County around 1850-1860. The first (William J. Brown # 1) was most likely the son of William and Martha Brown, who was married to Sarah/Sally/Mary, had a large number of slaves, and a large amount of property. His brother was most likely John F. L. Brown, who was married to Charlotte.
The second was William J. Brown (William J. Brown # 2) who was married to Elizabeth. They moved to Holt County between 1850-1860. He owned a much smaller amount of property and the ages of the slaves were not the correct ages. He is most likely not the enslaver of your ancestors.
Unfortunately, William #1 died in 1869 – if it had been a decade earlier, there may be a division of slaves probate/court filing for his slaves listing names.
William J. Brown #1
born about 1810 in Virginia, married to Sarah/Sally /Mary.. Parents were most likely William and Martha Brown.
